Edgecore Networks, a global leader in open infrastructure solutions, unveiled its new Phoenix AMX3200 optical coherent transponder and muxponder, engineered for high-capacity optical transport networks. Boasting a remarkable 3.2 Tbps of muxponder and transponder transmission capacity, the AMX3200 is set to revolutionize data center interconnects (DCI) and service provider backhauls, delivering exceptional performance and adaptability for modern network demands at significantly lower costs than proprietary solutions.

“Service Providers and large enterprises have historically struggled to find affordable, high performance long-haul optical interconnect. Traditional choices failed to take advantage of the IT industry’s massive investment in silicon switching and have ignored the substantial move away from proprietary solutions in favor of open solutions,” said Nanda Ravindran, Vice President of Product Management at Edgecore Networks. “Our company was founded on the use of open technologies, and the Phoenix AMX3200 is a prime example of high-performance and elegant engineering based on latest switching silicon available and support for any of the open operating environments desired by our clients.”

Disaggregated Design for Maximum Flexibility

The AMX3200 features a fully disaggregated system, offering unparalleled flexibility with modular SLED-based line modules and multiple network operating system (NOS) options. Edgecore Networks has partnered with NEC Corporation, a global leader in IT and network technology integration, to offer a comprehensive transport solution by integrating optical transport with advanced transponder components. “Our collaboration with Edgecore Networks enables us to realize an open and disaggregated optical transport system, providing telecommunications and data center operators with advantages such as optimal device choices, agile innovation cycles, and robust supply chains, marking a significant industry advancement,” said So Sato, Senior Director of NEC Corporation.

Enhanced Capabilities for DCI and Backhaul Applications

Leveraging the coherent-wavelength-supporting C-band channel and CFP2-DCO specifications, the Phoenix AMX3200 is built to power demanding DCI and service provider backhaul operations. It supports long-reach 100G-400G optical transport, ensuring high performance interconnect across various deployment scenarios.

Key Highlights of the Phoenix AMX3200:

  • High Performance
The AMX3200 supports a total of 3.2Tbps backplane switching and up to 400G links. As a disaggregated solution, the latest silicon switching technology has been applied to the growing need for high-speed long-haul interconnect
  • PTP Time Sync Functionality
AMX3200 supports PTP (IEEE 1588v2) Class C with PPS output in a two-SLED design, enabling telco applications at aggregation and edge locations.
  • Power and Cooling Redundancy
The AMX3200 features two front modular SLEDs, rear redundant PSU, and fan slots. It includes 4+1 fan modules for single-fan failure redundancy and supports 1+1 load-sharing redundant PSUs.
  • In-Box Scalability
AMX3200 is a 1 RU system with modular design, featuring 8 x QSFP+/QSFP28 and 2 x 400G (CFP) interfaces per SLED. It supports day-one needs and can scale with an additional SLED, offering service providers flexible, high-capacity growth.
  • Open Interoperability
AMX3200 is an open, disaggregated system supporting various optics and powered by the client’s operating environment of choice.
