The limited edition camera is functionally identical to the standard X2D 100C medium format mirrorless body, offering the same 100MP 44 x 33mm CMOS sensor, 294-zone phase-detection AF system, 7-stop-effective image stabilization, and a 1TB built-in SSD for on-board storage.

Where the limited edition model differs is in its Nordic-inspired aesthetics, based on Hasselblad’s homeland of Sweden. The camera sports a special coloring called Tundra Brown—it’s a combination of the gray-green tones of moss and arctic vegetation and the deep brown soils of the northern latitudes. Hasselblad states they developed this unique color using their own Natural Color Solution (HNCS) technology—the same color processing tech used by the camera itself during shooting—and it’s meant to “accurately depict the shades of the Nordic tundra, inviting a broader audience to admire its allure and distinct hues.”

In addition to the color itself, the body also features a laser-engraved serial number on the side of the body. This Earth Explorer kit is limited to 1000 units; the engraving includes the ‘Earth Explorer’ text along with a unique number from 0001 to 1000. Another cosmetic update to the camera is the unique Earth Explorer start-up screen, which, according to Hasselblad, “heralds the start of an extraordinary creative journey whenever the camera is turned on.” One other aesthetic complement to the camera is the bespoke Earth Explorer strap, which is made from eco-friendly recycled plastics that are woven together using traditional techniques. This strap is backed by a soft, skin-friendly fabric and is hand-embroidered with ‘Hasselblad’ on one side and a laser-engraved ‘Earth Explorer’ on the other.

Alongside the Tundra Brown camera, the Earth Explorer Limited Edition kit also includes the XCD 55mm f/2.5 V lens—a 43mm-equivalent prime that’s the ideal single lens option for landscape, travel, and exploration. This lens has a sleek design, a manual focus clutch, Central Lens Shutter that supports flash sync up to 1/2000 sec., and a natural field of view that’s well-matched to a variety of subject types. A matching 72mm UV filter is also included to protect the lens in inclement conditions.

Finally, rounding out the Earth Explorer Limited Edition Kit, a pair of batteries are included for longer shooting sessions along with a Battery Charging Hub to top-up both batteries at once.
