Thousands of ambulatory healthcare professionals from across the US traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, last week to hear from industry leaders and explore the latest healthcare technology at UGM 24. Held October 27-30 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, NextGen Healthcare’s 27th annual user group meeting (UGM) was themed “It’s Time.” The gathering highlighted the many ways technology is making providers more efficient and helping patients better engage with their care.

Attendees experienced NextGen® Ambient Assist, an AI-driven ambient listening solution that saves providers up to two hours of documentation time per day, and the NextGen® Closed Loop™ Patient & Practice Experience—an integrated platform that facilitates every aspect of the patient journey from access to intake, visit, health management, and care coordination. They also previewed the NextGen® Enterprise Data Warehouse, a new offering that helps NextGen® Enterprise clients leverage data and analytics to make informed decisions with ease.

UGM 24 also included more than 130 expert-led breakout sessions on topics ranging from optimizing workflows to navigating regulatory challenges to understanding population health. Another conference highlight was the Excellence in Healthcare Awards presentation, which recognized clients for their leadership in the following areas:

  • Excellence in Integration: Child Mind Institute
This national nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children facing mental health and learning challenges integrated an automated invoice system to reduce manual work by over 300 hours per month.
  • Excellence in Clinical Care: Barbour Orthopaedics & Spine Practice
This practice with locations along the East Coast and in Georgia overhauled a cumbersome paper-based surgery order process and standardized their surgery workflow, leading to an average of 375 minutes saved per surgery, an estimated $20,000 saved annually in paper and printing costs, and a 30 percent boost in administrative efficiency.
  • Excellence in Innovation: Heartland Community Health Network
Selected by a vote of their peers, this Texas and Nebraska network of FQHCs streamlined the ordering process with a custom template that allows diagnosis-driven, complex orders to be entered in 10 seconds or less from a single screen. Heartland is a repeat winner of the Excellence in Innovation Award.

“Bringing clients and NextGen Healthcare team members together for UGM 24 offered a unique opportunity to celebrate successes, learn from one another, and consider how we can continue driving better healthcare outcomes for all,” said David Sides, chief executive officer, NextGen Healthcare. “Our clients are leveraging technology to deliver exceptional patient outcomes, and it was a distinct privilege to recognize our award winners for their innovative work.”

UGM 24 session materials will be available to registered attendees through January 31, 2025, via the UGM 24 website.
