Workato®, the leading enterprise orchestration platform, launched its research report, Automate to Elevate, commissioned by Sago. This data report presents the key trends from 1,000 knowledge-based workers in the United States and the United Kingdom around the impacts of automation beyond productivity and efficiency. The report analyzes how automation can save more than just time and empower workers to collaborate, flex their creative muscles, and drive connection in a remote world.

Since the beginning of 2020, when work was fundamentally altered, a sense of instability and uncertainty permeated our workplaces and left individuals overworked. Between the recent acceleration of innovation and advancements with AI and fewer resources to establish a new normal, individuals across organizations yearn for more meaningful time. This report reveals that time back during the workday enables workers to be more efficient and productive. It also highlights that time back opens new pathways to be more creative, collaborate with teammates, and build human connections at work.

“As organizations continue to explore what the future of work looks like, many have to take into consideration how they will foster an environment that allows all workers to be creative, collaborative, and connect. It’s clear from the findings of the Automate to Elevate report that companies must provide the necessary automation tools that empower all employees,” said Stephanie Dwight, Vice President of Automation and Applications at Workato. “Acknowledging automation as a path forward for elevating work, people, and culture is crucial to the success of companies, regardless of industry or size. Now is the opportunity for leaders to invest meaningful time, resources, and money into their workers to promote a sense of belonging.”

This report identified the following key findings:

  • Increased time for meaningful work: Nearly 9 out of 10 people (87%) say automation saves them time. This is often represented in the work that can be a big, manual burden, freeing up time for meaningful, deep-thought work or collaboration
  • Building workplace relationships is crucial: 81% of respondents report that building positive relationships and connections with coworkers at any level is important in their overall job satisfaction
  • Productivity and quality of work go hand in hand: Overwhelmingly, workers are seeing the productivity benefits of automation tools and the quality of their work is improving, too. Specifically, with the use of automation tools: More than 1 in 3 people (38%) report being able to focus more time on business-critical work
  • Automation is helping bring teams together: Whether it's for collaboration, connection, or innovation, when you introduce technology into the workplace, specifically automation tools, 33% of respondents report that they innovate more with their team
  • Automation sparks creativity elsewhere: Nearly one-third (28%) said they feel more creative because of the time automation saves them, with 63% of workers agreeing that automation makes their work more creative

With independent market research from Sago, Workato surveyed 1,000 full-time knowledge workers, split evenly in the United States and the United Kingdom, about ways automation opens up new pathways for relationship building, collaboration, and job engagement and satisfaction. Respondents represented every level at a company with 1,000 or more employees, with the majority of respondents from large enterprise-sized companies.
