Kinary, an all-in-one mobile app that equips family caregivers with essential digital tools to streamline and manage daily responsibilities, has achieved key milestones through a grant from the California Department of Aging’s CalGrows Innovation Fund. Aimed initially at training 1,000 direct and family caregivers who were given access to the technology for free, the program saw more than double that amount of family caregivers register for training. This resulted in 3,108 course enrollments and over 23,430 hours of instruction completed. Kinary enabled more than 1,000 California caregivers to complete over 1,800 courses, underscoring not only Kinary’s commitment to addressing the needs of caregivers but also the strong demand for these vital resources, which tackles an often-overlooked challenge faced by millions of Americans caring for elderly loved ones.

Free Training for National Caregiver Month

In recognition of National Caregiver Month this November, Kinary is also announcing free access to its self-paced online training courses, equipping family caregivers with essential skills and resources at no cost. These courses address the unique challenges of caregiving, from daily care routines to stress management techniques, empowering caregivers with the knowledge and support needed to navigate their demanding roles. Kinary will launch new training opportunities specifically for dementia caregivers, available until January 1, 2025, to further support those caring for individuals with dementia.

"Kinary’s accomplishments through the CalGrows grant reflect the urgent need for accessible support for family caregivers across the country," said Rohit Maheshwari, CEO of Kinary. "As someone in the 'sandwich generation,’ balancing my work and my family’s needs while caring for aging parents, I understand firsthand the profound challenges and emotional demands caregivers face. After navigating a few health scares with my parents, who are both over 80, it became clear to me how crucial it is to have the right tools and preparation to care for them effectively. This personal journey fuels my and my team’s commitment to Kinary—to provide others in similar situations with the tools and support they need to live healthier, more balanced lives while dedicating themselves to their loved ones."

Launched in 2023, Kinary was inspired by the real-life challenges family caregivers face and designed as a comprehensive digital platform to streamline every aspect of caregiving, from managing medical appointments to supporting wellness routines and household tasks. HealthiPeople¹, the company behind Kinary, was one of only 150 companies awarded a grant by the CalGrows Innovation Fund in May 2023. As a grantee, HealthiPeople offered its innovative Kinary technology and tailored support resources to equip direct care workers and family caregivers in California to care for older adults and people with disabilities.

Key Features of Kinary include:

  • Centralized Dashboard: Prioritize daily tasks and make critical decisions to focus on what truly matters while avoiding burnout.
  • Appointment & Medication Management: Track appointments and medications in one place, helping caregivers stay organized and in control.
  • ‘Care Squads’: Share caregiving duties with family, friends, and external resources to reduce isolation and lighten the load.
  • Real-Time Activity Feeds: Monitor care activities to ensure loved ones receive consistent, high-quality care.

Survey Confirms Reduced Stress and Enhanced Preparedness Among Kinary Users

In addition to expanding family caregiver skills, Kinary successfully addressed caregiver stress and burnout, key challenges that often go unspoken. A recent survey² of Kinary app users revealed remarkable impacts on caregiver well-being: 41 percent of caregivers reported a significant decrease in stress, and 38 percent experienced a moderate reduction. Additionally, every respondent felt more prepared to continue in their caregiving roles after completing Kinary’s training. This improvement in mental and emotional resilience demonstrates the critical value of Kinary’s holistic approach, which goes beyond skills training to offer meaningful, personalized support for caregivers navigating the often demanding journey of caring for loved ones.

Transforming Family Caregiving with AI

Kinary will introduce advanced AI-driven features to enhance and streamline the caregiving experience. These features will simplify daily caregiving tasks, improve the organization and accessibility of essential information, and offer predictive insights to anticipate care needs. Through personalized support, including tailored guidance and resources, Kinary’s platform aims to empower caregivers with proactive, hands-on assistance, helping reduce their emotional and practical demands. By focusing on automation and intuitive support, Kinary is dedicated to providing family caregivers with a more manageable, responsive, and supportive experience as they care for their loved ones.

“We believe that AI holds immense potential to transform caregiving by simplifying daily responsibilities and offering tailored support for everyday tasks,” Maheshwari continued. “Our app will soon empower caregivers to access insights that make care safer, more efficient, and adaptable to each unique caregiving journey.”

Over 40 percent of American adults, representing 105.6 million people, are caregivers to wounded, ill, or injured adults. As Kinary continues its mission to revolutionize caregiving as a key pillar to improve patient outcomes, it remains steadfast in its commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of family caregivers and their loved ones. By combining practical tools with cutting-edge AI technology, Kinary is poised to address the complex needs of caregivers nationwide and create lasting change in how families approach elder care. With its continued expansion and dedication to caregiver well-being, Kinary sets a new standard for empowering family caregivers and advancing a vital yet often overlooked aspect of healthcare.

Family caregivers and those supporting them are encouraged to download the Kinary app on the Apple App Store and Google Play to access vital resources today.
